It’s not simply 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. Many copycat hot yoga classes call their classes “just like Bikram Yoga” but there’s a difference. Well-trained original hot yoga teachers understand the techniques that liberate students from the limitations of their own mind while applying this transformational yoga in the most therapeutic manner. The original hot yoga is designed to knock your socks off and show you how amazing you truly are. Careful application of the teaching techniques is critical for success. Teaching True enlightens you on the lineage of this class and these very specific techniques of understanding how to utilize the class for maximum effect. Teaching True will also outline how it differentiates itself from other “Hot Yoga” classes. You will get a thorough training in alignment and how to cue yoga students in the uniquely intense environment of an original hot yoga class. We train you on the specific techniques that bring people life changing benefits and total mind-body transformation.

You began your transformation with that first step into an original hot yoga class. This is the next step.

Robin Brace

Teaching True Director

I took my first Bikram Yoga class in 2002. I had been trying out a variety of yoga classes all over the world while working as a flight attendant. In one 90 minute Bikram Yoga class I found the uniquely powerful and transformational practice I had been seeking. It was only a few months into my practice that I knew I could teach this class. I knew right away that this was where I was supposed to be. In 2004 I attended Bikram’s 500 hour, 9 week teacher training in Los Angeles. I immediately started teaching in the US and in Chile where I lived at the time. I started my teaching career teaching in both English and Spanish.

In 2006 I took over a struggling downtown studio in New Haven, Connecticut on the verge of closing. Within a few years I turned it into a bustling True Bikram Yoga community with teachers coming in from all over the world for mentorship. In 2013 I expanded to a second location in Madison, Connecticut. My studios serve a diverse community that includes students, urban professionals, homemakers, retirees, fitness minded people of all ages and yoga teachers from various other disciplines.

There are two aspects of studio ownership at which I feel the most accomplished. One is assisting students who present with specific health concerns, including injury, trauma, chronic pain and addiction as well as women in pregnancy. The other is mentoring new teachers; helping them build a strong foundation of knowledge, ethics and technique as they begin their own rewarding careers.

As part of my passion to develop new yoga teachers, I assisted at nine of Bikram’s teacher trainings and assisted Rajashree Choudhury at Kripalu and Omega retreats. Throughout my career, I have mentored over eighty yoga teachers and have taught more than ten thousand students worldwide.

Teacher mentorship has been a passion for me and has included coaching athletes for yoga competitions. I have been a judge for the USA Yoga Federation since 2008; judging Regional and National Competitions across the country and currently serve on USA Yoga Federation’s judges committee. In the past five years, my studios have produced four champions at the regional, national and international levels in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

In addition to coaching, I have worked extensively with athletes to improve their performance, conditioning and reduce the risk of injury. I have facilitated the mobility module of training for the Yale football team, Yale men’s lacrosse team and The University of New Haven women’s basketball team.

I am excited to bring my passion, knowledge and experience to a new generation of yoga teachers at a time when the evolving industry is offering many new opportunities to students and teachers alike.
